· Paracetamol prescribing and paracetamol overdose in Europe: a descriptive analysis of trends and patient characteristics - Finalised
· Drug utilisation study of prescription opioids - Ongoing
· Drug utilisation study on antibiotics in the ‘Reserve’ category of the WHO AWaRe classification of antibiotics for evaluation and monitoring of use - Ongoing
· Optimising and validating OMOP pregnancy algorithms for Darwin EU databases with pregnancy-related data - Ongoing
· Capturing obesity, obesity-relatedvariables, and changes in weight over time across the DARWIN EU network - Under ethical approval
· Characterisation of data capture related to suicidality-(suicide, suicide attempt, suicidal ideation, self-harm) and depression across the DARWIN EU network – Waiting to start

EMHA Participates in European Medicines Agency Meeting on Real-World Evidence Studies
The Egas Moniz Health Alliance (EMHA) participated in a meeting on Real-World Evidence (RWE) studies organised by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), held on 12 and 13 November at the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam and at the European Medicines Agency headquarters in Amsterdam.
The meeting brought together partners from the international DARWIN EU® network, of which EMHA is a member. To date, the network has initiated 100 real-world data studies, involving 30 institutions across 16 European Union countries and providing access to healthcare data from 181 million patients.
The Entre Douro e Vouga, Aveiro, and Gaia and Espinho Local Health Units (ULSs) have contributed or are currently contributing to several DARWIN EU studies, including:
Paracetamol prescribing and paracetamol overdose in Europe: A descriptive analysis of trends and patient characteristics – Completed
Drug utilisation study of prescription opioids – Ongoing
Drug utilisation study on antibiotics in the "Reserve" category of the WHO AWaRe classification of antibiotics for evaluation and monitoring of use – Ongoing
Optimising and validating OMOP pregnancy algorithms for DARWIN EU databases with pregnancy-related data – Ongoing
Capturing obesity, obesity-related variables, and changes in weight over time across the DARWIN EU network – Under ethical review
Characterisation of data capture related to suicidality (suicide, suicide attempt, suicidal ideation, self-harm) and depression across the DARWIN EU network – Awaiting initiation
According to Peter Arlett, Head of the Data Analytics and Methods Task Force at the European Medicines Agency, "each study brings us closer to safer and more effective treatments and better outcomes for patients."
To date, the EMHA partner Local Health Units are the only institutions in Portugal participating in the DARWIN EU network. Their involvement is both a source of pride and a significant responsibility, contributing to the advancement of clinical research and the improvement of healthcare across Europe.
