A Brief History

The Board of Directors is composed of members appointed by the entities that make up the Consortium, under the following terms:
a) Two members appointed by each of the following entities: the University of Aveiro (UA); the Aveiro Regional Health Unit (ULSRA); the Entre Douro e Vouga Local Health Unit (ULSEDV); and the Gaia/Espinho Local Health Unit (ULSGE);
b) One member from the primary healthcare sector, co-opted by the group of members identified in the preceding paragraph.
The Scientific and Strategic Council consists of eleven highly distinguished individuals with recognized professional experience, appointed as follows:
a) One by the member of the Government responsible for science, technology, and higher education.
b) One by the member of the Government responsible for health.
c) One by each of the consortium's founding members.
d) One by each of the Regional Health Administrations (ARS, I.P.), representing their respective partner members.
e) One by each of the city councils of the municipalities where the consortium's founding members are located.
The Ethics Committee for Research in Life and Health Sciences (CE-ICVS) has a multidisciplinary structure, consisting of eleven full members and two alternates appointed by the EMHA Board of Directors.
The appointed members include individuals from the entities that form the EMHA Consortium, ensuring fair representation. At least two of these members are external, with one recruited from the community to guarantee the inclusion of relevant cultural and moral values.


Egas Moniz Health Alliance (EMHA) Clinical Academic Center is an organization that includes the University of Aveiro, the Local Health Units of the Aveiro, Entre Douro e Vouga, and Gaia Espinho regions. It contains over 2 million clinical patient records.
